Palmdale, CA – Following his tour of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station today, Congressman Mike Garcia (R, CA-25) presented the second half of his August personal salary donation to the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters, an AV nonprofit supporting local Sheriff Deputies by providing them with funding for life-saving protective equipment that is not covered by their departments.

“As politicians continue their foolish push to defund our law enforcement and officers are tasked with an increasingly difficult job, these brave men and women continue to come into work every day to make sure our families and neighborhoods are safe,” said Garcia. “Our law enforcement officers make every sacrifice we ask of them, and we must do our part to make sure they have the tools they need, especially as their budgets are slashed.”

Congressman Garcia’s contribution to the Boosters makes up the second half of his August donation and follows last week’s contribution to the Antelope Valley Veterans Community Action Coalition, another Antelope Valley nonprofit supporting local veterans with health care and financial assistance.

“Thanks to Congressman Garcia’s donation, the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters will be able to buy more safety equipment and non-lethal weapons for our deputies,” said AV Sheriff’s Boosters President Marvin Crist. “The department does not have the budget to cover some of the necessary resources that help our deputies do such a dangerous job. Especially with the recent cuts, this donation will help us keep our deputies safe as they protect our community.”

Garcia’s August split donation follows his contribution to the Simi Valley Police Foundation in July, which reestablished his commitment to supporting local law enforcement officers and their families. Garcia will continue to fulfill his pledge to donate the equivalent of 10% of his monthly salary to 25th district non-profit organizations in the coming months as we continue to recover from the Coronavirus pandemic.
